The Pretty Cup

I love having tea with friends. Since we have so many young children, we rarely pull out our full china set. But I have a few extra pretty cups set aside for guests. I reserve my Sadler Queen Elizabeth I bone china tea mug for friends named Elizabeth, but small parties will always have fancy cups set before them.

How about you? Do you save the pretty cup for a friend?

  1. Beautiful photo, and great question! Being a poor college senior, I have no nice cups, but I have cute little china plates I like to serve desserts on to my friends 🙂 You should post photos of all your beautiful cups 🙂

    1. I _could_ post the plates, but could I keep the table clean long enough to get them all out without a child running past and mixing things up in his own particular idiom?

When I was in college, I LOVED going around to thrift stores collecting singleton dessert plates and teacups. Most of them are still around, but we currently have a lot of our china in the attic until we get a couple of free hours to put up the teacup shelves in our dining room (you know, because we moved in here 3 years ago). Enjoy your dessert plates! My now husband and I used to drink tea together in college from an old teapot that dribbled and the ugly motivational mugs people gave us when we got out of high school. Tea lends dignity to everything!
